The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a qualification that is highly valued by leading universities and employers. At The Excelsior Academy Sixth Form, students have the opportunity to undertake the EPQ as an additional qualification alongside their A-Levels.

The EPQ enables students to develop essential skills in independent research, critical analysis, presentation and academic writing. Students choose a topic they are passionate about, conduct in-depth research and produce a 5,000-word dissertation. The qualification is equivalent to half an A-Level and is worth up to 28 UCAS points.

Students complete the qualification during their first year of Sixth Form. The EPQ is delivered through a combination of taught sessions and mentoring.

At The Excelsior Academy Sixth Form, we are committed to providing students with opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. As part of this commitment, we have partnered with The BizBook, a publishing platform that showcases outstanding student research. Through The BizBook, a selection of EPQ projects are published, providing students with a unique opportunity to have their work shared with a wider audience.
